ACO MUSKOKA

WHO WE ARE

The Architectural Conservancy of Ontario Muskoka Branch was founded in 2006 to create public awareness and advocate for the protection of distinctive architecture and cultural heritage landscapes in the District of Muskoka, including the Townships of Georgian Bay, Lake of Bays, Muskoka Lakes and the Towns of Bracebridge, Gravenhurst and Huntsville.

WHAT WE'VE DONE

  • Partnered on Doors Open Muskoka 2007 to 2014. More than 12,000 visits were paid to sites during events.
  • Written press releases and articles for local papers
  • Contributed to ACORN
  • Provided input on Official Plan reviews
  • Provided advice to owners
  • Hosted lectures on Heritage Conservation Districts and heritage buildings
  • Liaised with other heritage groups to provide information on Heritage Tax Relief, designations, and conservation districts
  • Hosted member events
  • Partnered with the Archives of the Windermere Women's Instute and Muskoka Chautauqua on the Windermere History Proiect, 2019 and 2020
  • Developed the Windermere Heritage Walking Tour - a self-guided overview of the history and heritage of the village of Windermere.
  • Created MUSKOKABuilt, a searchable database that inventories heritage buildings and landscapes across Muskoka District. If you are an ACOmember you can add information to this database. Watch for our launch in 2023!
