The Port Carling Boat Works was established in 1925 by several key players in the boat building industry: Billie Johnston Jr., Harold Cooper, C.J. McCulley, Doug and Cam Milner, R.A. Shields, and R.J. Hutchison. During the
Depression, the company sold the most stock production inboard boats in Canada. Their famous SeaBirD launches were built on-site and at a branch plant at Honey Harbour.

The utilitarian building is handsome with simple frame construction and unpainted wood siding, angled braced
openings over the boat entrance and single glazed multipane windows to the second storey.
