The property was originally owned by the Windermere Club and later purchased by the Cotton family in 1901 for the construction of their cottage. The Miller family rented it in 1907 then purchased Llanllar a year later. It transferred to the Marshall family, who acquired the former Presbyterian Church lands to add to the property in 1941, then the Gay family in 1953. In 1962, the cottage burned down. Haviland and Shirley Ann Allen purchased the property following the fire and constructed the present cottage.
